I read The Great War for Civilisation by Robert Fisk a few years ago. He goes into depth about the Iran - Iraq war. Despite Saddam deploying chemical weapons Iranians were willing to die. They welcome martyrdom. Those are some battle hardened people this isn’t going to be some walk in the park.
